JEE Main is a computer-based online test conducted by National Testing Agency for students aspiring to pursue undergraduate courses in top engineering institutes in India. It is the first phase of the IIT Joint Entrance Exam. The examination is conducted in two sessions and candidates can take the exam either in the month of January or in April. The candidates can further opt to appear for one exam or both the exams. The better of two NTA scores will be considered by the exam conducting authority in preparing the ranks/merit list.
More significantly, students are granted admission to IITs, CFITs, NITs, and other Government funded technical institutes based on the marks obtained in JEE Main. Also, the top 2,50,000 students from JEE Main will qualify to appear for JEE Advanced.
After announcing the postponement of the JEE Main exam NTA has yet again released a new notification stating the extension of the application correction facility for JEE Main 2020. The facility will now be open until July 20th, 2020 wherein candidates will be able to make corrections in the application form.
Fresh exam dates have just been announced by the HRD Minister for JEE Main 2020 (second phase). Exams which were scheduled to happen in July have been postponed till September 2020. JEE Main exam will now be held between 1st to 6th September. With this, the IIT JEE Advanced exam date has also been shifted to 27th September.
JEE Main 2020 second session is scheduled for July. However, as of now the decision to postpone or cancel the exams is awaited. There is no update from the official exam authority (NTA) right now. JEE Main 2020 (second phase) exam dates have just been announced by the HRD Minister on May 5th, 2020. As per the announcement, the national level entrance exam will be held from July 18th to July 23, 2020. However, the date for the release of admit cards for JEE Main 2020 was not revealed by the minister. The entrance exam was postponed due to the COVID-19 lockdown which was imposed on March 24, 2020.
National Testing Agency (NTA) in a notification has announced the opening of the exam centre correction facility for registered candidates. The exam authority will now be allowing students to change their choice of exam centre city for the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Main 2020. This process will remain open until 5:00 PM, on 14th April 2020. The fee has to be paid via online mode before 11:50 PM.
Amid the ongoing Coronona virus situation, National Testing Agency has now postponed the ensuing JEE (Main) April 2020 examinations that were scheduled to be held on the 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th April 2020. The exam will most likely be held in the last week of May 2020. The exact dates will be announced on the official website (jeemain.nta.nic.in).
Similarly, the admit card release date has also been postponed. As per the official notification dated March 31st, the hall tickets will be issued after 15th, April 2020 only.
National Testing Agency has now extended the JEE Main registration date for the April 2020 examination. According to the notification released on its official website the last day to submit the application form will be March 12. Previously, the deadline for completing the registration was March 6. The application form can be accessed from the official website (jeemain.nta.nic.in.) and the registration link will remain open until 5 pm for the said date.
Additionally, candidates will be able to make corrections or edit the particulars in their form starting March 13th to 16th.
National Testing Agency (NTA) has now published the information brochure for JEE main 2020 April session. The document contains all the information about the entrance exam and is provided in English and Hindi languages. JEE Main second session will be held from April 5 to 11.
The admit card for JEE Main 2020 (January session) will be released online on the 6th of December, 2019 on the JEE Main official website (jeemain.nic.in). National Testing Agency (NTA), the main exam authority for JEE Main 2020 has yet again reopened the application window for Jammu and Kashmir candidates. Thus, interested students can fill and submit their applications starting October 4, 2019. They can visit the official website (jeemain.nta.nic.in) to fill the JEE Main application form. The application window will remain open until November 8, 2019.
NTA has just announced the extension of the application dates for JEE Main 2020. The application process was supposed to be closed on 30th September. As per the new notification, the date has been extended to 10th October. Students who wish to apply can visit the official website and fill the forms online.
NTA (National Testing Agency) has just revealed the exam dates for JEE Main 2020. According to the official notification:

For 2020, the exam authority has introduced a few changes in the JEE Main exam pattern. These include;
The total number of questions in JEE Main 2020 question paper has been reduced from 90 questions to 75 questions. Additionally, each section will now consist of 25 question instead of 30 questions. Here, 20 will be MCQ type and 5 will be numerical type questions.
There will be three papers for JEE Main. A separate paper has been added for B.Planning courses. The paper will consist of 100 questions in total.
JEE Main Paper 2 for B.Arch will consist of a total number of 77 questions.
Students can now take any one paper, or two, or all three papers, according to their choice. Meanwhile, the registrations for the January session has already begun. Students can check the details below.
JEE Main 2020 will comprise of three papers. Paper 1 will be for students who are planning to take B.Tech courses, whereas Paper 2 will be B.Arch programs and Paper 3 will be for B.Planning courses. NTA has introduced the new exam pattern for the upcoming 2020 exam. Meanwhile, the registration and application process for the January session starts in September and for the April session, it usually begins in the month of February. Students appearing for class 12 board exams with Physics and Maths as their compulsory subjects are eligible to appear for JEE Main 2020. 2018-19 pass-outs are also eligible to appear for this exam. However, before applying for the exam candidates should fulfil the JEE Main eligibility criteria. Failing to do so will result in the rejection of the application.
In JEE Main, the difficulty level of exam lies between moderate to tough. If we look at the previous year papers and break it down subject-wise, the Chemistry section is usually the easiest while Physics is found to be on a moderate level. Mathematics can be considered to be the toughest. In comparison to JEE Advanced, most of the questions in JEE Main are straightforward and NCERT based. However, a few tricky questions are also present and they are designed to test each candidate’s understanding of the concepts as well as their analytical skills.
NTA has set up several practice centres to familiarise students with the JEE Main examination. All the exam specifications like the paper pattern, syllabus, marking scheme, fee structure remains unchanged.

JEE Main is a standardized test that is conducted across different states in India. The exam is held at an undergraduate level for offering admissions in some of the best engineering and technical institutions that are Government funded or privately owned. The top reasons for taking the exam are:

JEE Main is the first step for IIT aspirants to get admission in top IITs and other colleges across the country through JEE Advanced.
Students to keep a few things in mind while filling the application form. Firstly, the application form other than online mode will not be accepted. Candidates can submit only one application. Multiple submissions will be rejected. They can follow the given steps for successfully submitting the online application form.
Step 1: Visit the official website (jeemain.nta.nic.in) and register for the online form. Make a note of the application number. It will be required to generate the password and for future correspondence.
Step 2: Log in to the portal using the application number and password and access the application form.
Step 3: Start filling in the form and type in all the required details.
Step 4: Upload the scanned copy of the documents containing the signature and also photographs.
Step 5: Payment of JEE Main 2020 Exam Fees – online or offline payment.
Offline Payment: Download the e-challan and transfer the fee amount at any branch of ICICI Bank, Syndicate Bank, or Canara Bank.
Online Payment: Using Credit Card, Debit Card, Net Banking, SBI Buddy Wallet, PAYTM, UPI, and Cash Cards.
Step 6: Take a print out of the acknowledgement or confirmation page.
Before filling of the online application form candidates should keep the following things ready.
PC with a good internet connection.
Details of qualification.
Scanned copy of passport photograph. It has to be clear, in JPG/JPEG format and the image size has to be between 10 kb–200 kb.
Digital copy of the candidate’s signature in JPG/JPEG format with the image size between 4 kb–30 kb.
Working e-mail id.
Valid mobile number.
A printer to print the confirmation page.
NTA will also provide a one-time correction facility to make all the required changes in the form. For the new session, the correction window will be opened from 11th – 17th October 2019. Additional fees have to be paid.
Note: As per the official notification, no correction will be allowed after the submission of the final application. Moreover, candidates have to know that no change will be accepted even if they send a request by post, fax, email, or by hand.
The application fee for the January session can be paid between 3rd September to 1st of October. The final financial transaction can be done up to 11:50 pm.
If all the steps are not completed then the online application form will stand invalid. It will be dropped and no information will be released in this account. In addition, request for refund of fee will also be rejected. On the other hand, NTA can use the data gathered for research and analysis purpose.
The JEE Main eligibility criteria describes all the terms and conditions that aspirants should satisfy in order to be eligible for the exam. Hence, to avoid rejection in later stages, the students go through and understand the eligibility criteria before registering for the exam. We have highlighted some of the important ones below.
Age Limit: There is no age limit for candidates who wish to appear for JEE Main 2020 January and April exams. However, candidates must note that the IITs can set age criteria for admissions. The details are usually published in the JEE Advanced 2020 Information Brochure.
Qualifying Exam: Irrespective of the age the applicant can qualify if they have cleared their class 12th or any equivalent exam such as a two-year Pre-University exam, Joint Services Wing of the National Defense Academy exam, senior secondary school examination, Higher Secondary Certificate Vocational Examination, amongst others.
Year: Students should have appeared for the exam in 2018 or 2019. Those who are appearing in their class 12th examination in 2020 are eligible to appear in January JEE Main 2020 examination.
Criteria For admissions in NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs: The candidate must secure 75% Marks in their class 12 board exams or should be within the top 20 percentile of their respective boards. For reserved category candidates, the minimum percentage required for admissions in NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs is 65%.
Qualifying Marks: There is no minimum pass percentage for appearing in JEE Main exam. However, the applicants must pass their class 12 board or other equivalent examination.

Mathematics is compulsory for candidates applying for B.Arch./B.Planning courses.
The examination authority follows the reservation criteria laid by the government of India for granting admissions through JEE Main. All India ranks will be provided based on the categorical reservation policy. The percentage reservations of categories for admissions through JEE Main are as follows:

SC candidates: 15% reservation
ST candidates: 7.5% reservation
PwD candidates: 5% reservation

Knowing the JEE Main exam pattern is vital for candidates who want to have a smooth preparation for JEE. It helps students develop a clear idea of the marking scheme, distribution of questions, sectional weightage and exam duration. There is a new pattern for 2020 JEE Main exam. There are three papers instead of two. Paper 1 is for students aspiring for B.E./B.Tech courses in NITs, IIITs, DTU, and other GFTIs whereas Paper 2 is for B.Arch. Paper 3 is for B.Planning courses offered by these institutes.
Understanding the exam pattern enables candidates to gain a valuable opinion about the whole exam structure. Therefore, for better results, students are advised to get a complete overview of the paper pattern and devise a suitable study plan or strategy.
JEE Main Paper 1 comprises of Maths, Physics, and Chemistry whereas Paper 2 has Maths, Aptitude, and Drawing Test. Paper 3 will consist of Mathematics, Aptitude and Planning based questions. The candidates can opt for either one or both the papers. NTA has also reduced the number of questions in Paper 1. Now there are 75 questions instead of 90 questions and the total marks allotted is also 300.
All the Papers are entirely computer-based online test whereas Paper 2 drawing section is conducted offline in a pen and paper-based mode. The exam duration for all the Papers is 3 hours.
Exam Mode: Computer-based offline exam. The students will have to mark their responses on already downloaded answer sheets.

Nature of Questions: Objective type multiple-choice questions as well as numerical based questions.
The paper will have a total of 75 questions (300 marks) with 25 questions from each subject – Physics, Chemistry, and Maths.
For every correct answer, 4 marks will be awarded while 1 mark will be deducted for every incorrect answer.
No marks are given for questions left unattempted.
Marking scheme for numerical based questions includes 4 marks for the correct answer. There is no negative marking even for incorrect answers.
Only one response has to be filled in, more than one response will be judged as a wrong answer and will result in negative marking.
Exam Mode: Offline Exam
Exam Duration: 3 hours
The Questions will be from topics covered in Maths, General Aptitude, and Drawing Skills.
Mathematics will consist of MCQs and questions for which answer is a numerical value. Aptitude will also have MCQs. Drawing test will evaluate the sketching and drawing skills.
The Aptitude Test consists of 50 questions (200 marks). Maths section consists of 25 questions (100 marks) and the Drawing test comprises of 2 questions (100 marks).
For every correct answer in Maths and Aptitude section, 4 marks will be awarded while 1 mark will be deducted for every incorrect answer.
There is no negative marking for Drawing questions.
Exam Mode: Offline Exam
Exam Duration: 3 hours
The Questions will be from topics covered in Maths, General Aptitude, and Planning skills.
Mathematics and Aptitude will have single correct objective type multiple-choice questions. Planning based question will also be MCQ type.
The Aptitude Test consists of 50 questions (200 marks). Maths section consists of 25 questions (100 marks) and the Planning test comprises of 25 questions (100 marks).
For every correct answer, 4 marks will be awarded while 1 mark will be deducted for every incorrect answer.
4 marks will be awarded for the correct answer in numerical based question. No negative marking is given.
The results of JEE Main is declared by NTA. For 2020 exam it will be released tentatively in the months of February and May. The results of JEE Main exam conducted in January will likely be declared in February 1st week and the results of the exam conducted in April will be declared in the 1st week of May.
For students appearing in both the phases of JEE Main, the better of the two results will be taken into consideration while preparing the final rank.

Joint Seat Allocation Authority is set by the HRD Ministry to regulate the admission process for IITs, IIITs, NITs, and government-funded technical institutes. The students qualifying JEE Main will be able to apply for NITs, IIITs and CFTIs through JoSAA counselling.
The seat allocation in the preferred technical institute is done based on the merit, eligibility, preferences and seat availability. The qualifying students are required to register for JoSAA counselling whose registrations will commence after the declaration of the results.

Apart from IIITs, NITs and GFTIs several private engineering institutes like BIT Mesra, HBTI Kanpur, Thapar University, Assam University, Tezpur University, JAYPEE Institute, and LNMIIT Jaipur offer admission based on the marks in JEE Main exam. Other technical institutes like DTU (Delhi Technical University), NSIT Delhi, IIIT Delhi are excluded from JoSAA counselling. However, these institutes offer admissions based on JEE Main scorecard and the students are required to apply separately.
